Why Marketing Is a Must for Yoga Teachers

(Even If It Feels Uncomfortable)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Our founder, Valerie Saindon, has spent nearly two decades in the yoga industry, including running Victory Yoga and teaching yoga for almost 10 years.

Combined with 10+ years in marketing and lead generation, this series was created to help yoga teachers and studio owners grow their visibility, attract more students, and build sustainable businesses with authenticity, without losing the heart behind why they started teaching in the first place.

I’ve been in the yoga industry for nearly two decades, and a yoga teacher for close to ten years.

And this article is for my fellow teachers.

Because if you’re anything like most yoga teachers I’ve met… you didn’t get into this to “market yourself.”

You got into this because you care:

  • You want to help.
  • You want to support.
  • You want to create space for people to feel better in their body, in their mind, in their life.

And if we’re being honest…

If you could, you’d probably just teach.
And let the rest take care of itself.

The Reality Most Yoga Teachers Face

Yoga teachers have big hearts.

They give a lot.
Sometimes… too much.

And often, they ignore the early warning signs:

  • Classes not being full
  • Income feeling inconsistent
  • Pricing feeling uncomfortable

They often also reply on:

  • Word of mouth
  • Posting on social media
  • Or hoping the “right people” will find them

And when that doesn’t happen, it can feel disheartening.

The Unavoidable Truth

As a yoga teacher, you NEED to learn marketing.

Because your work deserves to be seen.

Marketing is not separate from your practice. It should become part of it.

Because If People Can’t Find You… They Can’t Be Helped by You

You can be the most incredible teacher.
Hold the most beautiful space.
Have the deepest impact.

But if people don’t know you exist… none of that reaches them.

And that’s not a reflection of your ability.
It’s simply a gap in visibility.

Marketing Doesn’t Mean “Selling Yourself”

This is where a lot of resistance comes in.

Marketing can feel:

* Pushy
* Inauthentic
* Too loud

But it does have to.

At its core, marketing is simply:

Helping the right people understand you, who you are, what you offer and how you can support them.

In a way that feels true to you.

This is what I call Authentic Marketing

Marketing that:

* Feels grounded
* Makes sense
* And actually works

This Is an Important Skill

No one is born knowing how to market themselves.
But it is a skill.
And like any practice… It gets easier with awareness and repetition.

You don’t need to do everything.

But you do need to learn how to:

* Communicate clearly
* And understand how to attract the right students

A Gentle Reminder

If you’re here to help people…

Don’t ignore this part of the work.
Learning how to reach your students is part of the practice.

Because I see too many incredible teachers:

* Undercharging
* Burning out
* Or leaving the industry altogether

Because they were never taught how to grow.

Because When You Support Yourself… You Can Support More People

Your impact grows when your business grows.

And letting your work be seen is part of your responsibility as a teacher.

If this resonates, I’ve put together a collection of resources to help you navigate this in a way that feels grounded and practical.
